The New Zealand Charity Reporting Awards are presented annually by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) to recognise excellence in charity reporting and to help the sector continue to improve the quality of its reporting.
Since 2016 Charities have been required to apply the reporting standards issued by the External Reporting Board (XRB). These were introduced to provide greater transparency and consistency in reporting in the charities sector.
Prizes are awarded to the winner and highly commended in each of the three reporting categories plus the Sustainability Award. One prize is awarded to the overall winner for Te Ao Māori Award.

The judging for each reporting category is based 50% on compliance with reporting standards and 50% communication effectiveness. The Sustainability Award is judged on demonstrating how economic, social and financial resources are managed to ensure the future of the charity and stakeholders.

Tier 1 & 2 – The Fred Hollows Foundation
Fred Hollows restored sight to thousands of people around the world and trained countless eye doctors to do the same. He believed everyone, rich or poor, has the right to quality, affordable eye care. His work lives on today through The Fred Hollows Foundation which aims to put an end to avoidable blindness in the Pacific. We won’t stop until our Pacific neighbours have permanent access to quality eye care by helping restore sight, train and support doctors and nurses, strengthen health systems and drive innovation and research.
Tier 3 – Hutt Valley SASH
Our service was established in 1982, originally known as Hutt Rape Counselling Network, changing our name to Hutt Valley Sexual Abuse Support and Healing in 2017. Our service covers Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt communities and supports women, men and children affected by sexual abuse, rape, or sexual harm.
Tier 4 – Track Zero
Track Zero works with the arts, science and other sectors to tell the climate story in ways that engage people’s hearts and minds – inspiring transformative climate change action. Based in Wellington, our geographic focus is on our Pacific region, Aotearoa New Zealand and the Deep South (Antarctica). Climate change is an increasingly existential threat to people in the Pacific region and Antarctica is a reminder of our fragile connection with nature and the science empowers us to act. Our work aims to connect up the global, national, community and household levels – working across society for a fair, sustainable future.
Sustainability – Sustainable Coastline
Established in April 2009, the Sustainable Coastlines Charitable Trust is a multi award-winning New Zealand charity that exists to connect people to nature and inspire change. Our long-term vision is for restored mauri for our moana and our mission is to support communities around Aotearoa to prevent litter and restore waterways. The key outcomes we strive for are beautiful beaches / oneone kōrekoreko, healthy waters / waiora and inspired people / tāngata whakaohooho.
